Good Afternoon;
Last Week we held the latest GMP Bolton North regular PACT Meeting, on this occasion the Meeting was hosted at Tonge Moor UCAN Centre. PACT stands for “Police and Communities Together” and the meeting is an opportunity for residents to come along and meet senior officers responsible for Policing in the Bolton North area, representatives from Bolton Council’s community safety team, Bolton at Home and Local Councillors.
At the meeting attendees received a short presentation from Inspector Warner regarding GMPs Neighbourhood Commitment and how GMP is responding to what people told us they wanted from GMP. Inspector Warner then explained the progress GMP has made in recent months in respect of tackling the Neighbourhood Crime Priorities of Burglary, Robbery, Vehicle Crime and Theft from Person offences.
Sgt Jones then took over the presentation and explained how we in Bolton North are increasing our engagement with out communities with increased drop-ins, school inputs, attendance at community events. We have delivered and will continue to deliver themed “weeks of action” across the area where we spend time targeting specific crime types, vulnerabilities and issues. Sgt Jones explained The GMP website now delivers improved content specific to your local area and explained how Bee In The Loop works and is used.
Sgt Jones explained our recent activity Targeting Road Safety, off road bike / illegal e-bike use, theft, drug supply and how we have targeted our activity around hotspots and targeted repeat offenders. Sgt Jones shared with attendees examples of work with our partners including housing agencies, trading standards, Bolton Council working towards our shared goals of improving our communities.
We then held a discussion with attendees who raised concerns about abandoned / untaxed vehicles, expressed a desire to increase parking restrictions in certain areas, litter and fly tipping and also concerns around begging particularly in the Bolton Town Centre area.
Officers explained that in the Bolton North area, (which excludes the Town Centre) Operation Yetminster has been running to challenge and target begging. Op Yetminster is our dedicated response to begging around Bolton North. In 2025 Op Yetminster saw officers visit hotspot locations in relation to begging 388 times. We identified 32 different people begging, issued numerous Community Protection Warnings & Notices and had Criminal Behaviour Orders granted at court. This work continues alongside signposting people for help and engaging with support agencies and charities. Op Yetminster has continued in 2026 with officers conducting Op Yetminster vists the hotspot areas visited on at least 80 occasions so far. | |
Attendees told us that begging remains a concern for residents in the area and Bolton Council officers agreed to raise the concerns raised about activity in the Town Centre areas with the relevant teams and colleagues. We on the Bolton North area remain committed to continuing our work on the relevant locations on our area – particularly around Turton Street.
We will continue to run operations dedicated to improving road safety throughout the borough as well as the seasonal Op Hurricane that targets illegal and anti social motor-vehicle use, particularly around Motorcycles and E-Bikes.
